This month we’re highlighting our experienced and dedicated occupational therapist, Jeniffer Gonzalez. Our co-founder and OT Director, Veronica Cabrera, says: “I am fortunate to have had Jeniffer working by my side for 8 years, during which she has been essential to the development of our OT approach, as well as the ongoing training of therapists. She is always coming up with new ideas to continue improving our team. She is passionate about working with our little ones and their parents, inspiring confidence and trust; she truly joins together with families on the journey of helping their children close developmental gaps. Jeniffer is an amazing therapist and an integral part of our team!”

Jeniffer, Why did you get into the occupational therapy field?

I was inspired to get into OT because of my love for kids. Another big inspiration for me was my mother, who is also an OT.  I remember always admiring her work.

What do you appreciate most about your role as an OT?

I love using play to engage with little ones to better understand what they are communicating. I’m then able to help their families better connect with and understand their children. Another rewarding part of my job is being able to help families learn their children’s needs, and strategies for meeting those needs.

What stands out to you about working at Integrated Children’s Therapy?

At ICT we have a team approach. Working with other disciplines and families are key to maximizing the potential of all our clients.

What is an intervention or strategy that you find especially useful?

I think the best strategy I have found is to see each client and their family as unique, and be open to combining a variety of intervention approaches and styles to suit their needs.

What is your top tip for parents?

Enjoy playing and engaging with your child! Be present during shared moments with them, and offer them lots of opportunity for actual ‘face time’ — not phone or TV time!
